I’ve written poetry, lists, letters and dedications on the things I admired about my partners.
Does everyone do that?
I wonder what messages I will never receive because they’re lost somewhere;
In someone’s notes app, journal, email, repressed thoughts. Does the smell of certain perfumes make memories of me flash in someone’s head? I find myself revisiting places I once haunted with lovers. Taking time to sit on the same benches, walk the same trails, recall what it felt like to see others admire our beauty together. I lay in the same grass, reminiscing on our brown skin blurring together in an embrace.
Something about reliving these moments by myself feels like a reclamation, a moment in my personal history of vulnerability, of excitement, of anxiety.
These poems are for you, thank you.
